Farewell, Bruno

For those who did not hear the tragic news, Gary, aka Bruno on this forum, passed away three days ago, after being in a coma for four weeks. He was 27.

Friends know this, but for readers outside our circle, he was part of huge brawl in Jacksonville after his beloved Eagles lost in the Super Bowl. For those who would mock him in the face of this tragedy, he didn't necessarily start the incident, but he was looking to end it, in his own drunken, surly, beautiful way. The main offender has still not been apprehended.

I doubt many of us have much desire to carry on the torch here at The Forum For 'Em, at least not for a while. God rest your soul, Bruno, and maybe the Birdz will win one up in heaven.

Checking in on my brother's laptop from J-ville. 2 and a half days and counting until the first Birdz championship in 44 years, first Super Bowl ever. It's happening. Jax-hole is a crap town, definitely, but Rick, Jones, Tard, and Philo and I have been tearing this place down. We went to this strip joint called Wacko's the other night and it was exactly what the title sounded like -- wacko. Out front it was the normal g-string specials but if you get them in the back -- bring your wallet and a seat belt!!! Candii (**that's how she spelled it) is from Media and we talked about PA while she lap danced me. Preeeemo.

Back to the topic at hand. Terrell or no Terrell, the Eagles are going to jump up and bite the Squatriots and everyone who thinks it'[s going to be a cakewalk. Seriously, we are the Rodney Dangerfield of Super Bowl teams, and this game is going to shock everyone. You guy think I'm full of shit, but I'm not. You'll see!!!!!!!!!

I don't feel my Canes are getting enough respect from you clowns, despite my post yesterday. ESPN.com and Andy Katz agree with me (doesn't that geeble look like the guy from Northern Exposure?)

Let's start in Miami, where Frank Haith and the Hurricanes take on No. 4 Duke Wednesday night in one of the biggest games in school history. How did this happen?

"I was hoping we would get to the NIT," said Haith of his preseason expectations. No athletic director took as much of a gamble as Paul Dee. Haith was an unproven and little known assistant at Texas. He was a name within the ACC from his days at Wake Forest, but not to the casual fan. He is now.

Miami is tied with North Carolina in the ACC standings by winning three of its first four games, including a win at Virginia and at home over N.C. State. Suddenly, basketball is cool in Coral Gables and we're not just talking about Shaq, D-Wade and the Heat.

"I didn't think we were terrible," Haith said. "I thought we would get better. Everyone said we would finish last in the league and rightfully so." The 'Canes lost all-Big East forward senior Darius Rice. Point guard Armondo Surratt transferred to San Francisco, Karron Clarke transferred to DePaul and the top recruit, C.J. Giles, landed at Kansas.

"Why not pick us last?" Haith said. "We lost so much. But we kept getting better." Haith said he started to believe he could have a squad when Boston College coach Al Skinner told him at the ACC meetings that his guards -- Robert Hite and Guillermo Diaz -- were as good a tandem as anyone had in the league.

Hite is averaging 19 points, Diaz 17.6 overall. But Haith said the play of sophomores Anthony Harris (12.4 ppg) and Anthony King (6.6 ppg) might be the difference for this squad.

The season changed when the 'Canes won at Florida after losing to South Carolina State and Xavier. "We needed a win like that to have confidence," Haith said. "We won a game on the road, no one expected us to win."

Posted my first comment over at that Wheelhouse blog. Felt good. They were ganging up on my Birdz (and people like me!) and generally being stupid and narrow-minded. Their more active, they must not have busy jobs. One guy is kinda funny but the other guy is terrible. And I think gay. I think he likes it in the wheelhouse. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't wanna start a feud or anything (sorry Myno) but they had it coming.

Hey, I hope what they said about the NHL is true. Flyers would cruise thru a short season and hopefully no injuries. Broad Street Bullies in '05, not '06, '07, or never again as I was starting to fear.

The Birdz played pretty bad but the Vikes played worse. Donovan got the job done, and F-Mitch stepped up in T-O's absense. 27-14, back to the NFC Championship Game. Our home away from home. Boys, we've been here before and haven't made the leap, so this time let's do it. Atlanta is soooo overated. Vick is great, yea, but he's just one man. Their D is good but that's it. Warrick Dunn? Warrick Frickin Dunn? You gotta be kiddin me. TJ Duckett? Suck it. Queerless Price? Whatever. There will be a sea of green around Vick, and he's fragile, too, so let's break him in the 1st Qtr and take easy street to Jacksonville! And we can worry about this more after this Sunday, but I am sick of all the talk that the AFC is so much better than the NFC. We'll see when the Birdz bring the thump down on either the Pats or the Steelers. I hope it's Pittsburgh so we make it an all-PA Super Bowl -- and crush Big Ben and end the dumb-assed chatterboxes who hyped up the AFC. Bring it!

Had this argument last night at Clubb Hitz -- UofM guys do better in the NFL than the Semen-noles or the masturGators. I heard all the BS about Emmitt and Derrick Brooks blah blah blah, I got 2 words for ya - Danny Wuerffel and Charlie Ward~!! Nobody better say Gino or I'll punch you like I socked Biggins last night - and ooh yeah he's got the shiner to show for it, bee-och. Vinny is STILL in bizness in Big D. Canes all the way.

and let me just say that you guys might have me on a computer right now but I will NEVER EVER EVER agree that computers should control the outcome of college football!!! It's a prized possession, treat it like one with real people! This country is overcrowded with humans (not all of them legal, yaknowwhutImean down here in FLA ;), but man, use them!! I also think the Rams are gonna sneak up on Atlanta and beat 'em this weekend. the Falcons have been putting the 'con' in Falcons for a long time now, as in they are conning everybody else in the world but not me. Vick is great when the defense is crappy, but he ain't never seen D like the Philly Steak D. Jeremiah Trotter's gonna be trotting up and down Vick's back.
